      @@torronthemightynot if you constantly build them up and remind them failure isn’t a reflection of self. It’s a reflection of how you could be in the future if you strive for success in whatever it maybe. Including beating dad.
      Though given how the kid reacted, he seemed genuinely happy to race dad. He didn’t seem upset at all he lost. They’ve probably been doing this for at least a few years. So I don’t think they haven’t accounted for that. Especially when he immediately hugged his kid and reassured him that it’s ok and hyping him up for next year. 😅

    The day I beat my dad in a foot race for the first time I swear I almost saw a tear. Years later and he still says he was so proud but realized I couldn’t see him as “Superman” anymore. He’ll always be Superman I just was the flash that day.

      ​@@SpittingVillageif the kid wants to win, he'll train as hard as he thinks the victory is worth. Besides, that's a pretty good motivator for anything in life. Sure, the kid could do it on his own, but procrastination can poison anyone unless they actively snap themselves out of it. Case and point, I beat my nephew at a video game countless times and understandably he got tilted every time. The older he grew and the more he played, eventually we rematched and he mopped the floor with me. I saw immediately that he WANTED to be good at video games and deserved to win. Besides, parents are there to motivate you and they want to see you do better than them, because eventually they'll be the future.

      No that's not how you motivate a kid. He absolutely knew his dad was letting up to make it competitive. In the longer video the kid gets pissed after the race and starts kicking the house. They cut that part out for this 'cute' video.

    Never let them win, it makes them better because they try harder. I was 12 when I beat everybody in my family.. but I was a serious runner. I remember when each of my children finally beat me in a race.. and it was real. They savored that victory. Me too, I was so proud of each 1 of them. ❤ You will be so proud too. ❤

    I'm in my 40s and I *still* remember the day I beat my dad in 1:1 basketball.
    Because he never let me win. So I worked hard and earned it. And he couldn't have been prouder.
